So what happens when the actual day is a big letdown and you’re feeling depleted of joy, after the fact.
Maybe a relative got angry with you. Or a friend or family member embarrassed you. Perhaps you couldn’t focus on being thankful because you found out something that upset you. Or you are worried about paying bills after you just bought all the food to host. Maybe you are thinking of the person that’s not at the table anymore with you.
It may be tempting to lay in bed after it’s all over into the next day ruminating over everything that happened and where it went wrong.
If indeed you do that it’s okay to rest up. But don’t stay there. Get up. It may feel like you took five steps back at Thanksgiving dinner but I want to encourage you to get out and do something when you are up to it.
Go on a walk. Listen to a sermon. Watch a good movie that’s not too intense. Talk to the Lord about what you are feeling. I guarantee you will start to feel better. Life’s not easy, or fair, or fun all the time. It hurts. It gets messy. But the one who died on the cross for you so you could be saved by His Grace loves you so much.
Be encouraged. Today’s a new day with new possibilities. You can’t go wrong with the Lord by your side.
Ephesians 2:8-9 For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God— 9 not by works, so that no one can boast.
Psalm 28:7: The Lord is my strength and my shield; in him my heart trusts, and I am helped; my heart exults, and with my song I give thanks to him.
